Imagine running into a bipedal creature that looks like a man, but has the head of a wolf. If any of you readers have looked at this blog before you probably know that I've written a lot about Dogmen, which I think are becoming the "next big thing" in cryptozoology.
Dogmen are usually described as about seven feet tall, with extremely muscular bodies, elongated wolf paws for feet and hands, German Shepard-like heads, and sometimes tails. Yeah, these things are not the same thing as Bigfoot. Dogmen are seen all over the United States, and are sometimes seen near where humans live. These things are mean, too.
Leonard Nimoy passed away yesterday. Nimoy is best know for his role of Spock on Star Trek, but he was also the host of In Search Of... , a show about cryptids and other unexplained things that ran from 1977 to 1982. He also hosted Ancient Mysteries, and the Bigfoot episode of that series is one of my favorite Bigfoot documentaries ever.
Today, I finished Stan Gordon's book Silent Invasion: The Pennsylvania UFO-Bigfoot Casebook. The book came out in 2010 and is about the flap of Bigfoot and UFO sightings in Pennsylvania in 1973 and 1974.
It appears that Destination America's Monsters and Mysteries in America has moved to Wednesdays instead of Saturdays, which stinks for me, because it means I can't watch it when it premiers anymore. It doesn't really matter, though, 'cause I can still record it on the DVR. The episode on tomorrow sounds like it will be a good one.
Monsters and Mysteries in America: "Mill Race Monster, Toxic Rain, Devil Dogs" airs tomorrow at 10 PM on Destination America. I posted about one of the creatures in the episode, the Mill Race Monster, back in November, on the anniversary of the sightings. The Mill Race Monster is sort of like a Bigfoot creature, and I think Toxic Rain and Devil Dogs are pretty self explanatory.
Destination America is also having a marathon of Monsters and Mysteries on before and after the episode.
Monsters and Mysteries in America: "Men in Back Special" is on from 5 PM to 6 PM. Monsters and Mysteries in America: "Florida Zombi…
Yesterday I posted an update on my book Cryptid U.S.: Tales of Bigfoot, Lake Monsters, and More From Across America. I was getting ready to load the book file onto the publishing site and I did, and it worked. I got the OK from the publisher and now I'm getting into the last few steps of publishing and it should be out soon. If everything goes good and it comes out it will be available on Amazon, Amazon UK, and the CreateSpace store. Be watching for another update sometime soon!
Some of the people reading this may have seen some of my earlier posts about my book Cryptid U.S.: Tales of Bigfoot, Lake Monsters, and More from Across America. The last time I posted about it was when I was in the publishing process, and I still am, but I think I have a huge update this time.
Creature Weekend is coming up from May 1-3 at Salt Fork State Park. This is going to be the fourth Creature Weekend and I will be going to the event, and I'm glad I am, because it looks like it's going to be awesome. Speakers are already announced, and they are listed below:
Many people believe that the creatures called Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Skunk Ape, MoMo, Grassman, Oh-Mah, etc. live in the wilds of North America. Some say that these creatures aren't real. Others think they are remnants of Gigantopithecus that came to North America on the land bridge connecting it to Asia a few thousand years ago. Some Native Americans, however, think the Bigfoot creatures are something spiritual. But, starting in the '60s and '70s, a new aspect of the Bigfoot phenomenon appeared, and that was the connection to UFOs.
The general public had known about Bigfoot for about 16 years. It was 1973, and residents of Pennsylvania started reporting strange encounters with large, hairy, man-like creatures. At the same time, there were tons of reports of strange objects and lights being seen in the sky. The great Bigfoot/UFO flap of 1973 had begun.
The reports had actually begun a year before in 1972. At the time several people had reported seeing UFOs, and others report…
Giant Catfish are real, but they still have a connection to Cryptozoology. Recently a HUGE catfish was caught in Italy. You can see how big it was in the image below...…
This fish is 8 feet 9 inches long and weighs 266 pounds!
That's one big fish in India. But gigantic catfish have been reported other places as well. Loren Coleman has a whole chapter on the huge fish in his book Mysterious America. One giant catfish discussed is the one seen in Lake Decatuer, in Illinois.
This photo shows that there can be giants of animal species. Other cryptozoological creatures said to be huge include giant snakes, giant spiders, giant bats, and giant octopi. If a catfish can get this big, why can't other animal do the same?
The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization was founded in 1995 by Matt Moneymaker, who is now star/host of Animal Planet's extremely popular Finding Bigfoot, along with Cliff Barackman, Ranae Holland, and James "Bobo" Fay. The BFRO has many members from around the country and the organization has several big expeditions each year. They have a website where they post news and lots(and I mean LOTS) of sightings of sasquatches from all over.
Some of the BFRO's expeditions are open to non-members. Non-member expeditions this year will be in Washington, Oregon, California(2), Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Florida, New Jersey, and New York.
There wasn't a new Monsters and Mysteries in America on Saturday night, but don't worry, because there is going to be a new episode tomorrow. The episode is "Vermont Pigman, Bridge Where I Died, Project Stargate" and will air at 10 PM, Feb. 18, 2015 on Destination America.
There were a lot of cryptozoology books that came out in 2014, and it looks like 2015 will have just as many good ones.
Loren Coleman has already posted on his blog twice about the books coming out this year, and I'm spreading the news here, 'cause I like books. A lot. Here's some books that have come out or are coming out this year:
