New Book News and More on Cryptid U.S.

Some of you reading this may have seen some of my earlier posts about my book Cryptid U.S.: Tales of Bigfoot, Lake Monsters, and More from Across America. Here's an update on that: I'm currently looking at a new publisher that I think I'm going to go with. If I do, Cryptid U.S. could be out in early 2015!

I've also started working on a few other books: another book on monsters in the United States(which will cover more than the first book), a book on Ohio monsters, a cryptid guidebook, and a book on flying things like Mothman and thunderbirds called Point Pleasant's Terror.

I'll post more on these books later, and hopefully you'll see at least one of them in 2015!

New Monsters and Mysteries in America Next Month

Season 3 of Destination America's Monsters and Mysteries in America is premiering next month, starting Saturday, January 17, 2015. Creatures featured will include Bigfoot and the government and the Mill Race Monster.

Book Review: Bigfoot in New Jersey

Yesterday I finishedBigfoot in New Jersey: The Garden (State) Variety Sasquatchby WR Matts, which came out in 2013.

At first Matts talks about how he became interested in Bigfoot and some traits of the creature. When he gets to chapter 5 he covers tons of Bigfoot reports in New Jersey. There's more than you'd expect! He also discusses some of his personal investigations and what to take with you if you go looking for a Sasquatch.

This was a very good book, 5/5 from me.

Minerva Monster

This is the trailer for the documentary Minerva Monster, about the Bigfoot sightings in Minerva, Ohio in the 1970s. The documentary is made by Small Town Monsters and will premier at the Ohio Bigfoot Conference on May 16, 2015.

Finding Bigfoot: Squatchers Take New Jersey

The two hour Finding Bigfoot episode "Squatchers Take New Jersey" is on right now, until 11 pm. The team is investigating sightings of the Bigfoot called "Big Red Eye" seen in the 1970s and sightings recently. Cliff takes Bobcat Goldthwait on a squatch hunt. This is the second New Jersey episode.

Tune in to Animal Planet to watch Finding Bigfoot. According to Cliff on his Twitter account, he will be live tweeting during the episode. Click here to check it out.

Check on this blog later for my review of WR Matts' book Bigfoot in New Jersey: The Garden (State) Variety Sasquatch.

Two Dogman Reports in a Month!

There's a Mysterious Universearticle from last month about werewolves. According to the article, there was a sighting in Michigan and another in Texas.

A video was posted by Christine Dela Parker, author of the book 100 Bigfoot Nights. The video was posted on YouTube and she says it shows a dogman, not a bigfoot. You can watch the video here.

A man sent in a picture that showed what he said was a Dogman or a Bigfoot in Texas. He said it was holding a dead animal, possibly a deer or wild boar. You can see the picture by clicking here.

If you looked at the video and picture, what do you think? Dogman? Bigfoot? Hoaxes?

Cryptozoologist of the Year: 2014

As he always does, Loren Coleman has named one person the Cryptozoologist of the Year on his blog CryptoZooNews. The Cryptozoologist of the year for 2014 is William "Bill" Munns, because of his research into the Patterson-Gimlin film. Earlier this week, Coleman named his book When Roger Met Pattythe best cryptozoology book of the year.

Congratulations Bill Munns, and Merry Christmas!

New 2-Hour Finding Bigfoot This Sunday!

Two episodes of this season of Finding Bigfoot have already aired, and after them Animal Planet took FB off the schedule. It was due to ratings, Matt Moneymaker said. New episodes, though, are returning this Sunday, starting with a 2-hour special with the team in New Jersey, and they might actually see a Sasquatch this time! Later, they will be in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Scotland.

The Best Cryptozoology Books of 2014

*This list was made by Loren Coleman on his blog CryptoZooNews, not me!*

As he always does, Loren Coleman has posted his top Cryptozoology books of the year on his blog. Here's how it starts:

"The Best Cryptozoology Books of 2014 by Loren Coleman, Author of Cryptozoology A to ZBigfoot! The True Story of Apes in America, The Field Guide to Bigfoot and Other Mystery PrimatesThe Field Guide to Lake Monsters and Sea Serpents, and others The 2014 books produced on cryptozoology topics were overwhelmed with a long list of Bigfoot titles, apparently trying to continue the recent trend to take advantage of the popularity of the Animal Planet television success of Finding Bigfoot. Out of all this fog, the year’s best book does happen to be a Bigfoot book, and this year, besides the top ten, I include a list of ten “honorable mentions” heavily weighed with Bigfoot books. As with my past “top book lists” on cryptozoology, all of the books listed are strictly nonfiction adult books. It…

Book Review: The Beast of Bray Road by Linda S. Godfrey

Yesterday, I finished The Beast of Bray Road, a 2003 book by Linda S. Godfrey, author of many cryptozoology books including Strange Wisconsin and American Monsters.

As you can tell from the title, this book is about the Beast of Bray Road, a dogman/werewolf seen in Wisconsin. Lots of sightings occurred in the early 1990s and Linda was the reporter in the area who covered the stories. Later, older sightings came in, along with those from other states, including some of the Michigan Dogman.

Godfrey also discusses possible connections between werewolves and ancient sites, artifacts, names, etc, and also how many TV companies searched for the monster.

I have read some of Linda's other books and enjoyed this one just as much as I enjoyed them. 5/5.

What the heck is this thing?

Once again, here's something that's not really on a cryptid, but this was just too strange for me to pass up!

A few days ago, On December 12, a man in the Mt. Carmel, Ohio, area reported seeing a very strange thing. The man is a 60 year old former marine who saw a seven-foot creature with muscular legs that walked with its knees bent backwards. The thing was grey, had no arms, and ran with its body bent forward.

The man's wife said they had just bought a property in the area and they always have one patch of their yard that is always green, "no matter what weather." She continued: "He is a skeptic….. he wouldn't have admitted to seeing it if he hadn't been in shock."

She said her husband thinks it was an alien. Maybe it lands its UFO in their yard and that's why its always green!

For more on the sighting of the creature, see here.

What do you think this thing is???

Are these Werewolf Tracks?

In 2011, a man who lives near Columbus, Ohio, took pictures of strange tracks he found in his yard. The man was frightened for his safety, as well as his wife's, because the tracks came from something big.

Here's a picture of one of the tracks:

Notice that there's drops of blood at the top of the picture. The man thought that whatever made them had a hurt foot.

Ohio researcher Joedy Cook has also found tracks just like the ones pictured above. Joedy was kind enough to let me use so pictures of those tracks in my book Cryptid U.S. in the section on Dogman sightings in Ohio and are also discussed in his book Werewolves Myths and Legends.

To see the original post about the tracks, click here.

What do you think made these tracks? A Dogman? Let me know in the comments.

Are Werewolves Becoming the new "Big Thing" in Cryptozoology?

Yesterday I watched an episode of Just Sayin on YouTube where the hostesses had Joedy Cook on. Instead of talking Bigfoot, they decided to talk about the dogman/werewolf phenomenon. They discussed sightings and books about the dogman, but also TV shows as well. Joedy works with Monsters and Mysteries in Americaand he talked about the episode with the segments on the Beast of Bray Road and the Michigan Dogman, which was apparently the most watched episode of he series so far. They also talked some about the  MonsterQuestepisodes "American Werewolf" and "America's Wolfman", which were also apparently very popular.(Just start typing "MonsterQuest" on Google search, one of the things that will come up will be "MonsterQuest Werewolf!")

Joedy kinda mentioned this, and I'm going too as well, and its that werewolves/dogman seems to be the "new" cryptid everyone is getting interested in. Lots of cryptozoology blogs, shows, etc. are now …

Black Shuck & Other Ghostly Devil Dogs

Since at least the 1500s, a "Ghostly Black Dog" called Black Shuck(also called Old Shuck, Shuck, or Old Shock) has been seen in the countryside of East Anglia and surrounding areas.

Black Shuck is said to be a large black dog(sometimes said to be as large as a horse!) that has flaming red or green eyes(sometimes only one eye.). Sometimes it is said to be headless, and sometimes it is surrounded by mist or is floating.

In 1577, black Shuck was said to have appeared at a church in Blythburg, England. Some connect him to a demon.

Other dogs like Black Shuck are seen all over the world, but some are said to be good, but most, like Black Shuck, are said to be demon or devil dogs.

Earlier this year, a giant skeleton of a dog was found in East Anglia. Some think it is the skeleton of Black Shuck.

For more on the skeleton find, see here.

Cryptids of the Week: 12/14-12/20, 2014

Welcome to the 6th Cryptids of the Week! These are the two Cryptids chosen for December 14 thru 20, 2014.

Michigan Dogman

The Michigan Dogman is a creature that is described as looking like a werewolf. This creature is sighted in Michgan(duh), but other creatures that look like it are seen all over North America. Another well known Dogman is the Beast of Bray Road, which was featured in the first Cryptids of the Week.
The Michgan Dogman became well known in 1987 when disc jockey Steve Cook created a song about encounters with it called "The Legend." After the song came out, on April Fools Day 1987, people started calling and saying they had actually seen the creature or knew someone who had! After Cook's soy came out, it was the most requested song on the radio! Over the years, Cook has updated it. The song is based on sightings of the creature, saying it appears every seven years, so this year it would be back!

Book Review: The Journal of Cryptozoology, Volume 2

The first Journal of Cryptozoology came out in November 2012. This a review of Volume 2, which came out in December 2013.

This volume discusses (1.) unknown hominids from Flores island, (2.) King Cheetahs in old paintings, (3.) Spain's lake monsters, and (4.) the koolookamba. The entries were written by: (1.) Gregory Forth, (2.) Karl P.N. Shuker, (3.) Ulrich Magin, and (4.) Don Cousins.

This journal was longer than volume one, at about 80 pages. 5/5 from me.

This is one of the worst fake Bigfoot pictures I've ever seen

The Ohio Bigfoot Conference Facebook page, Bigfoot Evidence, the SOSBI Facebook page, and probably others have all posted  a "new bigfoot picture" today. The person who sent it to the OBC said they "have no idea what it is or who it is."

Update: December 18, 2014: Cryptomundo has now posted about the picture as well. SeeGame Camera Photo of a Bigfoot?

Seriously though, this is one of the worst faked Bigfoot photos I've ever seen. You can tell its a costume or something of the sort just by looking at it, and the only thing that is blurry is the "Bigfoot!"

For the original check out the Ohio Bigfoot Conference.

The Jeff Meldrum/Todd Standing Issues

As always, there's been a lot going on about Todd Standing in the cryptozoology world lately, and now Jeff Meldrum has been thrown in, too. This year, Jeff has been supporting Todd at bigfoot events, and apparently called Standing his "colleague" on Coast to Coast AM last night. According to the news, many people who have supported Meldrum are not doing that any longer. Kathy Strain and Henry May  have already posted how they will not be supporting Meldrum anymore.

I have to admit that I think Todd Standing is a hoaxer too, and also don't really like Jeff Meldrum teaming up with him(the same goes for Les Stroud), but I'm still supporting Meldrum with everything else(and Les, too.)

A Recent Sighting of a Goatman near Herrin, Illinois

J. Nathan Couch, author of the new book Goatman: Flesh or Folklore?, has a new post on his blog about a recent Goatman sighting.

The sighting occurred in Herrin, Illinois. The witness saw a creature with gray skin, hairy legs, hooves, horns, and an extremely  muscular upper body. Couch also discusses the Greek god Pan, because the witness panicked when he saw the creature. To figure out how those two things are tied together, read the full thing here….

You can watch the preview here.

Top Cryptozoology Deaths of 2014

This list is by Loren Coleman and is from his blog CryptoZooNews. I did not make this list.
These are the top Deaths in Cryptozoology in 2014.

"Top Cryptozoology Deaths of 2014 by Loren Coleman, Cryptozoology A to Z. Director, International Cryptozoology Museum The passing of Peter Matthiessen during 2014 was the cryptozoology-related death that obtained the most mainstream media attention. But others died who had significant impacts on the field. They should be remembered too at the year’s end. Let’s recall a few of those folks. <><><> Here is my list of the recently departed who have been touched by cryptozoology, Bigfoot, especially, and cryptids, in general. And then by extension, they touched us. All deaths are deeply experienced. I pause to recall those who have passed away in 2014, with respect for them, their families, and for all they shared and created. These individuals are noted here in my annual goodbye and celebration of their lives. Twenty-fourtee…

Cryptids of the Week: 12/7-12/13, 2014

Welcome to the 5th Cryptids of the Week! The are the two cryptids chosen for December 7 thru 13, 2014.

Fouke Monster

The Fouke Monster(s) is a Bigfoot-like creature seen mainly near Boggy Creek, near the town of Fouke, Arkansas. It was first reported when settlers arrived in the areas, but sightings really took off in the 1900s. In the early 1970s, sightings gained a lot of publicity after it attacked the home of Bobby and Elizabeth Ford. In 1972, a dock-drama movie about the monster called The Legend of Boggy Creekcame out, and is well known by almost all Bigfoot researchers, including myself.
Sightings of the monster have continued to this day, and in 2012, cryptozoologist and author Lyle Blackburn published a book about it called The Beast of Boggy Creek.

In the 1960s, residents of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and surrounding areas reported seeing a strange flying monster. Most sightings occurred between November 15, 1966 and December 15, 1967. On December 15, the Silver Bri…

The Hexham Heads, The Sheep-Man, and The Werewolf

This is probably one of the few times you will see a post about something of paranormal nature on this blog, but I thought this story was really interesting.

The Hexham Heads were a pair of 6cm tall stone heads discovered by two boys in Hexham, England, in 1971.

After the boy's discovered the heads, their family(the Robsons) started reporting strange things happening in and near their home. Sometimes, they said, the heads would mysteriously move when no one was in the room with them. The same thing happened with bottles. The family living next to the Robson, the Dodds, also reported strange happenings. One night, one boy's hair was pulled by something, and, shortly afterward, his mother saw a "half-man half-sheep" leave the house!

After all these things happened, the heads were given to Anne Ross, who was an expert in Celtic artifacts. After she got the heads, Ross said, she also woke up one morning and saw a "part-man part-animal" figure walking through her…

A Review of the Journal of Cryptozoology: Volume 1

The Journal of Cryptozoolgy first came out in 2012. The journals are published by cfz press and they have decided to publish at least ten volume, no matter of sales, reception, etc. The journal's editor is Karl Shuker(author of many books, including the new book The Menagerie of Marvels), who some of you who have looked at this blog before will know If you have ever clicked the links to his blog.

There were four entries in the first volume of the journal, all written by different people. Subjects discussed were digital search assists in Cryptozoological expeditions, Queensland tiger footprints, the  "scapasaurus" carcasses, and the "jaws" carcass in Australia.

The journal was very short(only about 60 pages, a quick read) but was very good. Ill review the second volume later.

Please Give Condolences and Donations to Loren Coleman and His International Cryptozoology Museum

Loren Coleman of the International Cryptozoology Museum and author of many great cryptozoology books has had a hard year. This past winter he was in the hospital with medical problems. Now he's trying to find the money to pay the bills, and keep his museum open.

He had a post on his blog today asking anyone to donate, but I can't, because I don't have any money to do so, so I'm trying to help out by letting everyone here know.

Also, please give your condolences to Loren, as this is the day his Father died.

Book Review: Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science by Jeff Meldrum

Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science originally came out in 2003 as a TV documentary, created by Doug Hajicek, who later created History Channel's MonsterQuest. The book Sasquatch was written by Jeff Meldrum, a professor of anatomy and anthropology at Idaho State Univertsity. Meldrum is also author if the Sasquatch Field Guide and is currently working on another book on Bigfoot and other creatures in that category.

Meldrum's book covers things from the original Bigfoot "flap" of 1958, the Skookum cast, footprint evidence, DNA evidence, Native American stories and beliefs, the Patterson-Gimlin film, and many other things.

This book does not deal so much with actual eyewitness accounts of Sasquatch but more with what evidence there is for the existence of the creature, and there is actually quite a lot that would match what an ape or hominid creature would do if it were living in the wilds of North America.

Great  book on Bigfoot, 5/5.

ShukerNature: Horned Gophers and Other Paleontological Mysteries

Karl Shuker has a new post on his ShukerNature blog about ancient gophers with horns, fossilized tunnels, giant snail-like creatures, and other weird Paleontological specimens. I've read part of the article and it seems very interesting.

You can check it out here.

Ohio Bigfoot Conference 2015: Speakers So Far

The Ohio Bigfoot Conference is happening May 15, 2015. These are the four confirmed speakers so far:

I Know it'll be great to see Bob again and meet everyone else, I've wanted to meet Coleman for years. We already got VIP tickets, too, so I'm all set!

Do You Think Megalodons are Still Alive?

On October 23, an article appeared on the Daily Mail Online  about the giant shark Megalodon. Those of you who have looked at this blog before probably have seen some of my earlier posts about this shark, and if you haven't you can see them by clicking here.

The article was about a research group in Florida who say Megalodon became extinct 2.6 million years ago. The group says they want to clarify confusion that Megalodon is really dead, because apparently the Dicovery channel special Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives, actually fooled a lot of people in to thinking it was real. The Russian Yeti special that was on in June did the same thing, and I know that Aniaml Planet's Mermaidsspecial have done the same thing. I really can't believe anyone thinks those are real; the "videos" of the creatures are CGI, the "Scientists" are actors. But I still have people at school who insist they are real.

I think the Florida scientists are really just trying to get …

Cryptids of the Week: 11/30-12/6, 2014

Welcome to the 4th Cryptids of the Week! These are the two cryptids picked for the week of Nov. 30 thru Dec. 6, 2014.

Bishopville Lizard Man
The Bishopville Lizard Man is a strange creature supposedly living in Scape Ore Swamp, near Bishopville, South Carolina. It is also known as the Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp or the Lizard Man of Lee County. Most witnesses say the Lizard Man is about seven feet tall. Some witnesses describe a scaly reptilian humanoid, but others describe something that looks like a Bigfoot, so no ones is really sure which description really describes the creature, if it exists. The most famous encounter with he creature occurred at around 2 AM on June 29, 1988. Christopher Davis had stopped his car in Scape Ore Swamp to fix a flat tire when something attacked him. He jumped back in the car and sped away, but the thing jumped on top of his car! He swerved and it fell off, and he escaped. He said the thing was humanlike, with green skin, three fingers on each hand wi…

Is this a Photo of a White Bigfoot?

I saw a new post on Bigfoot Evidence today about a photo of a possible white bigfoot! Here's the photo!

I don't know what to think. It could be a white Bigfoot, but I can't be sure. It could also be a plastic bag. What do you think?

400 Pound Sasquatch Statue Stolen, Then "Reunited" With Family

There's an article from last week on about a Sasquatch statue. It kinda surprised me, because you don't usually see articles on bigfoot statues. Apparently, a man in Delhi Township owns a sasquatch statue nicknamed "squashy", and it was stolen recently. Later, the 4-ft. tall, 400 pound statue was returned, wearing a green sweater and a baseball cap.

The Beast of Bladenboro, Part 2

*This post is a continuation of a post I wrote yesterday. For that post, see The Beast of Bladenboro, Part 1*

After the Kinslaw incident, newspapers picked up the store about the beast and hunters rushed to Bladenboro. Some people thought the beast was a panther, others thought it was a stray dog. No one went out a night. On January 13, a local farmer shot a very large bobcat, and hung it on a flagpole in the middle of town, with a sign under it that said "THIS IS THE BEAST OF BLADENBORO."

It seemed that the beast was gone. Was it really only a large bobcat that had terrorized the town? Maybe, except that strange attacks started up again fifty years later!

In 2003, goats and dogs started showing up dead and drained of blood. People thought the beast was back. This time, however, animals were found dead in a 120 mile radius of Bladenboro. People started finding strange tracks.

In 2007, 60 goats were found dead with their blood drained and their heads crushed near Lexington. I…

Happy Birthday to Cliff Barackman!

Today is apparently Cliff Barackman's birthday. Happy Birthday Cliff!

I had the great chance to meet Mr. Barackman at the Ohio Bigfoot Conference back in April. This guy is seriously into Bigfoot.

Here's the links to his blog and Website.
