Are Dinosaurs Still Alive?

Most people think dinosaurs are extinct... but they may all be wrong.

Reports of creatures whose description matches that of a living dinosaur have been reported over the years. Lots of the reports have come from the swamps and jungles of Africa, but reports have also come  from other places.

The Arica Monster has been spotted in the deserts in Arica, Chile and is thought to be a surviving dromeosaur or ornithomimid.
Ornithomimid, what the Arica monster is thought to look like

Burrunjor is described as some kind of giant lizard that is about 30 feet long(or perhaps more!) It has been sighted in New South Wales, Arnhem Land, and Cape York Peninsula. Some people think it is a perentie, which is Australia's largest lizard, or possibly a surviving megalania, an extinct giant lizard like a komodo dragon.

Emela Ntouka is a creature said to be an "aquatic rhinoceros", but some think it is a surviving ceratopsian.

Mbielu-Mbielu-Mbielu is supposedly a live stegosaur.

The Mokele-Mbembe is the best known of the possible living dinosaurs, and is thought to be a living sauropod. Reports of the creature mainly come form Lake Tele in Congo, Africa. Numerous expeditions have searched for the creature, and one expedition is hopefully going to happen later this year or in 2015.

Some other extinct creatures, like pterosaurs, plesiosaurs, saber toothed cats, megalania, and giant ground sloths are thought by some people to still be alive.

Karl Shuker has written a book on the subject of living dinosaurs called In Search of Prehistoric Survivors, which came out in the '90s and may be reissued later this year.

One creature, a fish called the coelacanth, was thought to be extinct since 65 million years ago was found alive off the coast of Africa in the 1930s. The fish now has a holiday on December 23.

Do you think dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and plesiosaurs could still be alive? If so, which kinds? Leave your answers in the comments.

CHUPACABRAS: Alien Pets, Mutant Monsters, and Government Cover Ups

Description: Macintosh HD:Users:lorihouck:Desktop:images.jpeg

Mostly anyone with any interest in cryptozoology has heard of the creature called the “Chupacabras.” The chupacabras(spelled the same singular and plural) was first reported in Puerto Rico in 1995. Many farmers would go outside in the morning to find their animals dead and drained of blood. Animals killed included goats(hence the name of the killer, which translates to “goat sucker”), chickens, cats, ducks, sheep, dogs, and cows.

Later, people came forward to say that they had seen the chupacabras. Most witnesses described it as being about four feet tall, hairy, with a round head, a lipless mouth, fangs, and red eyes. It had short arms with three fingers with claws on the end and hind legs like those of a kangaroo. It had a line of spikes running all the way down its back.

Sightings of Chupacabras continued in Puerto Rico throughout 1995 and into 1996. Some reports also started coming from other places, including Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, and the United States.

The US sightings started in Florida on March 10, 1996. Teide Carballo reported seeing an “inhuman shape” walking across her property. Two weeks later, Olimpia Govea found 27 chickens and 2 goats dead and drained of blood. Barbara Martinez then lost 40 of her chickens and 2 ganders to the mysterious attacker."

This post is excerpted from my article about chupacabras in Issue 3 of Cryptid Seekers Magazine. For the whole thing you'll have to check out the magazine on MagCloud or the Cryptid Seekers facebook page.

I  also wrote about chupacabras in My book Cryptid U.S., which I will hopefully get finished & published soon.

A Look Back: 3 Sasquatch in a Cave

Sometime in the distant past(and by distant past I mean four months ago) I wrote a post about old photographs rumored to show three Bigfoots in a cave.

Here's the post:

A man named Oren Jeffries, an amateur spelunker/photographer, was exploring an unmapped section of Grand Caverns in Virginia conducting photography experiments. He would lay down flat on the cave floor, turn off his lantern, and try to capture photos of things in "cave darkness", or absence of light. One time, he heard something start to approach him from deep in the cave. He became frightened and left. He said he had seen three humanoid creatures.

A few days later, Jeffries and a few friends to retrieve his camera he had left when he had fled before. This is the picture on the film inside.

Here is a brightened version.

For more see this post on Bigfoot Evidence

I thought the story and pictures were interesting so I decided to write another post about it, with a little more information.

The photo was taken in 1895 in an unmapped section of Grand Caverns in Southwest Virginia by a man named Oren Jeffries. He was exploring the cave when he saw three humanoid creatures; he then left. Jeffries returned a few days later with three friends and retrieved his camera. Some say you can see an arm of one of the "humanoids" in the brightened version of the pic.

Those books will probably be added someday, and maybe one of mine will, too!

Cryptid Seekers Magazine Volume 1 Issue 3

Cryptid Seekers Magazine: Volume 1 Issue 3 is now available.

Articles in this issue of the new cryptozoology magazine published by Ohio cryptozoologist Joedy Cook include the following:

  • The Legend of Boggy Creek
  • Skunk Apes: Apes or Bigfoot?
  • The Lizard Man
  • The Dover Demon: What is It?
  • Lyle Blackburn's The Beast of Boggy Creek & Lizard Man: The True Story of the Bishopville Monster
  • Chupacabras: Alien Pets, Mutant Monsters, And Government Cover Ups
  • The Loveland Frogman
As you can see, this issue does not really focus on any certain cryptid, and it has articles about quite a few. A few do focus on Lyle Blackburn's fantastic books about the Fouke Monster and the Bishopville Lizard Man.

I also wrote an article that is is this issue- the one about Chupacabras. The article covers a short history of Chupacabras sightings and goes a little bit into what they could be.

American Monsters

Linda S. Godfrey's next book, American Monsters: A History of Monster lore, Legends, and Sightings in America is coming out later this month. Linda's last book, Real Wolfmen, came out in 2012. She is also the author of The Beast of Bray Road, The Michigan Dogman, Hunting the American Werewolf, Monsters of Wisconsin, Weird Wisconsin, Weird Michigan, Strange Wisconsin, Lake & Sea Monsters, and other books.

Here's the description from Amazon:

"From pre-Columbian legends to modern-day eyewitness accounts, this comprehensive guide covers the history, sightings and lore surrounding the most mysterious monsters in America—including Bigfoot, the Jersey Devil, and more.

Bigfoot, the chupacabra, and thunderbirds aren’t just figments of our overactive imaginations—according to thousands of eyewitnesses, they exist, in every corner of the United States. Throughout America’s history, shocked onlookers have seen unbelievable creatures of every stripe—from sea serpents to apelike beings, giant bats to monkeymen—in every region.

Author, investigator, and creature expert Linda S. Godfrey brings the same fearless reporting she lent to Real Wolfmen to this essential guide, using historical record, present-day news reports, and eyewitness interviews to examine this hidden menagerie of America’s homegrown beasts."

I had the chance to meet Linda earlier this year at a SOSBI event called "The Unexplained" in Cambridge, OH, and have four of her books. They are some of the best cryptozoology books out there.

American Monsters comes out August 28, 2014.

A Wisconsin Man is Missing... Is It the Work of the Beast of Bray Road!?

I just found a very interesting story on the Dogman Field Researchers Organization(DFRO) blog about a man who has gone missing in Wisconsin. The man has not been seen since July 13, 2014 and disappeared in the Kettle Moraine State Forest. The forest is about 15 miles from Bray Road, where the cryptic called the "Beast of Bray Road" is seen. The Beast is usually described as looking like a Dogman or werewolf.

Who knows, maybe the Beast caught the missing man. Or maybe it was a Bigfoot. There have been several Bigfoot sightings in the area as well, and some people think Bigfoot captures people, because many, many people disappear in national parks every year, and are never found. Davis Paulides goes over these disappearances in his Missing 411 books, which are supposed to be really good, but I haven't gotten the chance to read any of them yet.

I wrote a bit about the Beast of Bray Road in my book Cryptid U.S., which I am now finishing up and will hopefully publish soon.

Mountain Monsters is Gearing up for Season 3!

Destination America's hit series Mountain Monsters had it's season finale a few weeks ago, and now the AIMs team is back for more! Season three of Destination America's number one series EVER is going to start filming this fall and will premier in the spring of 2015. That's really all the info out now.

As Wild Bill would say at this point: HOORAH!

Also, check out Wild Bill's "wanted" posters for the Snalllygaster, Bloddless Howler, and Grassman!

Russian Yeti: The Killer DOES NOT Live, Just Like Magalodon

For more on the Discovery special "Russian Yeti: The Killer Lives" click here.

I was going to post this a long time ago but never got around too it because it is summer.

For any of you that have looked at this blog the past two months, you probably saw my post about the Russian Yeti special on Discovery that aired in June. I had seen on Cryptomundo that it was pretty bad, and, oh boy, it was! You could tell it was totally fake, just like the Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives that was on during shark week last year.

I'm not even gonna say any more about it, it was terrible. I'm getting sick of Discovery showing fake "documentaries" like this one. If you wanna watch something good, I'd say go for Monsters and Mysteries in America on Destination America or good 'ol Finding Bigfoot(which just had it's season finale a week or two ago.)

Alright, so far we've had fake documentaries about mermaids, megalodon, and now even the yeti. Can't wait to see what crap discovery will give us next year....

I did even have a good title for a new fake documentary discovery can show next year, but I'm not even gonna say what it could be, because I don't want them seeing this and actually making it. I like REAL documentaries on cryptids, thank you.

Today is Sea Serpent Day!

Hey everyone! I just remembered that today, August 7th, is Sea Serpent day! Even creatures that may or may not be real get holidays every once and awhile!

Sea Serpents are also the subject of my next book, which I will begin working on after I finish up everything with Cryptid U.S.

Happy Sea Serpent Day!

An African Lion Filmed in California?

What could be an African lion or lioness was caught on film by a surveillance camera in Norwalk, California recently. The cat was filmed at 3:44 AM and was walking across a driveway.

Craig Packer, who is a professor at the University of Minnesota Lion Research Center and author of the book Into Africa looked at the footage and said that the animal in the video looks like a lion. "It's not a cougar." He said.

Experts at the San Diego Zoo also said that the animal does not look like a mountain lion, but did not say anything else.

A game warden with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife said that the animal looks like an old, large dog, possibly a pit bull. "There was nothing pointing towards 'mountain lion'." He said. It is not really suprising that he said the animal is a dog, because that usually happens when game wardens try to explain a report of a mystery cat, anywhere in the United States. The other animal experts also say that the cat was not o mountain lion, but that doesn't mean it has to be a pit bull.

Cryptozoologist Loren Coleman posted about the story on his blog CryptoZooNews yesterday. He made freeze frames of the video that appear to show a mane on the animal.

So, what do you think? Is the animal in the video an African Lion, an escaped exotic pet, or just a dog? The animal could possibly be a surviving Panthera atrox, the American Lion. The American Lion lived in the Pleistocene epoch(.34 million to 11,000 years ago).

Reconstruction of the American Lion from Wikipedia

This possible lion is not alone. Other mystery cats, including black panthers, tigers, eastern cougars, and leopards are seen all over the United States, all the time. Loren Coleman wrote two very long chapters in his wonderful book Mysterious America. I also wrote a chapter about mystery cats and other out of place creatures in my book, Cryptid U.S., which I am now finishing up.
