It's that day of the year again - August 7, Sea Serpent Day!
(Yes, this is a real thing!)
According to nationaldaycalender.com, Sea Serpent Day is to recognize the famous HMS Daedalus sea serpent sighting of 1848. The crew on that ship saw a sixty foot serpent and it is one of the most famous of all sea serpent sightings.

If you want to read a good book on sea serpents or other aquatic cryptids today, because it is their day, I would recommend Peter Costello's excellent In Search of Lake Monsters (which has stuff on sea serpents, too.)

Happy Sea Serpent Day!
